The show’s description on YouTube reads, “Watch the Joshi family slowly discover there’s nothing shanti (peaceful) about building your dream home.” The trailer opens with the Joshi family of four traveling in a car. It features Manoj as comic Hindi newspaper columnist Umesh Joshi and Supriya as the stoic, school’s deputy headmistress Sarla Joshi. Their two children are seen physically fighting in one of the scenes. As Sarla decides to take voluntary retirement to avoid a transfer, her family faces the difficult situation of building a house after the short notice to vacate their government-allocated accommodation.
As they all come together to plan their new home, several challenges await them. With hilarious situations like the injured priest during the bhumi-pujan and problems arising in the floor plan, their struggle to build a house feels real.
Directed by Aakanksha Dua and created by Posham Pa Pictures, the slice-of-life drama stars debutants Chakori Dwivedi and Poojan Chhabra as the next generation of Joshis. Written by writers Akshay Asthana, Aakanksha Dua, Nidhi Bisht, Mayank Pandey, Nikhil Sachan and Saurabh Khanna, the series will be released on Disney+ Hotstar on May 6.
Speaking about the show, Manoj Pahwa said, “I am extremely proud to be part of a special project like Home Shanti. I fell in love with the show’s story of heartfelt and endearing drama. Viewers can expect a fun and easy watch that touches their hearts with its simple story and even simpler characters. However, playing these simple characters is what motivates me as an actor. Coming back to the sets with Supirya ji was like gliding through comfortable waters for me. I have to applaud the new talent as well they have been such an easy herd to work with and laugh with. I can’t wait to see how the public reacts to the show.
Supriya Pathak added, “Home Shanti is a heartfelt family drama that makes you step back and take note of those little intimacies shared in a family. The relatability factor of this drama is very high because we all know families who dream of owning a home one day. I had an absolute gala time working on this series, especially reviving Manoj and my chemistry had me super excited. Sometimes the whole thing looked like an extension of a family.
