NDMC to construct additional block at Indira Niketan Working Women Hostel

New Delhi City Council (NDMC) will build an additional block with all modern facilities at Indira Niketan Working Women Hostel in Laxmibai Nagar, New Delhi to provide a safe and secure living place for women who come from outer regions from Delhi and live alone in the capital to study or work.

He was briefed by NDMC Vice President, Satish Upadhyay.

Upadhyay said the growing mobility of students to seek the education they desire is increasing the demand for accommodation facilities in the capital. The hostel as a residential unit can promote community life and provide security, especially for female students, who cannot live alone, or even in small groups, in foreign cities, he said. .

Upadhyay said that currently NDMC has three working women’s shelters in three prime locations in the city namely Swati – Mandir Marg, Aakansha – Mandi House and Indira Niketan – Laxmibai Nagar.

He said these hostels provide facilities for non-resident female workers at an economical rate.

Currently, Indira Niketan can accommodate around 200 women, and once the new block is developed, an additional 117 women will be able to take advantage of the facility.

“We had previously planned to expand the facility to the other hostels as well, but there were space constraints. Indira Niketan is spacious and so we decided to build a new block here,” he said. declared.

While giving the technical details of the additional block, Upadhyay said that the total area of ​​Indira Niketan is 6715.91m² with the old building being 852.87m² and the new building being 521.65m².

The whole building will be on an RCC frame structure which includes a three-storey building consisting of 10 bedrooms with attached toilets, while the ground floor consists of 9 bedrooms and a reception with a common passage of 1.8 meters wide. There is the provision of general facilities like a lift and stairs.

He further informed that the total estimated cost of the project is Rs 9.45 crore, this block will be equipped with all the modern and environment-friendly facilities like rainwater harvesting system, fire fighting system fires, etc.

He also informed that vitrified tile flooring will be used in all rooms, flush door sashes, aluminum glazed windows, stainless steel railing, granite stone in riser and stair tread, and exterior finish with Jaisalmer stone cladding etc. Work is likely to start in June after all tender formalities have been completed.
